Meeting: December 2010
The December meeting was held in John Rynne’s workshop. The turn out of members on the night was well down due to the poor weather conditions.
John himself got the turning off to a start by turning an eggcup. Again this month’s demonstration piece was the next month’s competition piece this idea seems to be going down well with demonstrators and members alike. John had allot of pieces roughed down so all members could have a stab at turning an eggcup. This idea added a nice variation to the evening. Numbers where drawn out of a hat and John had two lathes set up so both novice and experienced turners had a go at turning an eggcup if they wished. The variations between the forms from one turner to another were vast with no two cups even similar. This was an excellent idea that got the members involved.
The competition piece for December was a turned piece with Christmas thyme. The number of pieces on the night was low but this was totally understandable with the weather conditions and nobody likes having to go and turn in our freezing cold workshops even if we would like to think them as our very own oasis. The January Chapter meeting is going to be held in Danny M Geever’s workshop.
