Competitions

.Sligo Wood Turning Chapter holds competitions for the members. The aim of the competitions is to get turners to develop their talents and to try and encourage members to push the boundaries of their capabilities as turners.

DSC_1408_2For the 2009 competition Danny Mc Geever was commissioned to design and produce a trophy for the over all winner.

Danny produced a beautiful miniature lathe, Danny’s attention to detail on this piece is a testament to Danny’s work, for example Danny had miniature gouges and he even had a bowl on the Lathe and the bowl has finished flawlessly. This prize is one that was extremely hard to win and I can see allot of turners in 2010 trying there best to have their name engraved on it for 2011.

The Overall Winner for 2009 was John Rynne who won this beautiful price based on his amount of first places in the monthly competitions. In the monthly competitions Colm Breenan and John Rynne came joint first and Philip Mahon came third. Our prices where kindly partialy sponsored by Stanley Raitt. Record Power and Robert Sorby
